Sontselik

«Sontselik» — is a musical and plastic production based on the ceremonial song’s heritage of the Ukrainian nation.

The calendar’s ceremoniality of Ukrainian culture from ancient times closely connected to natural cycles which headed by the Sun. It dictated the rhythm of life, work and holidays, and exactly such deep unity with nature is became the basis of this concert.

The name “Sontselik” is formed from the ukrainian words “sun” and “count” (“Sontselik” — ukrainian “Suncount”), because ritual songs are a kind of time-counter, it is a poetic calendar in which each song is an event, and each ritual is a mark on the year’s circle.

Almost all art collective of the theater is involved in the production: orchestra, ballet dancers, choir, vocalists and dramatic actors. Together they recreate the unique world of Ukrainian traditions — bright, emotional, thoroughly permeated with the energy of the Sun.
